Terms, conditions and rules

Last updated: 01. Mar 2026

Summary: "TL;DR"

This document applies to those attending or helping organize the Furway convention. It most importantly explains the terms and conditions you agree to be subject to (Terms and conditions for attendance) when registering for a ticket. It also describes the rules you need to follow (Rules of conduct), as well as the community standard you're expected to adhere to (Community standard).

In summary, the entirety of this document (i.e. the community standard, terms and conditions, as well as the rules of conduct) all roughly revolve around norms and expectations associated with normal polite conduct and convention safety, whilst also reflecting the furry fandom's general strong propositions on tolerance and kindness.

Community standard

Furway is an organization aiming to represent and embody safe, inclusive and respectful events and spaces for everyone. The following code of conduct aims to protect attendees and ensure a relaxed, positive atmosphere:

  • Treat others with respect, kindness, tolerance and politeness: Furway is a place with many different people and opinions, and a mutual respect for this fact and this variety is expected from all attendees.
  • No means no: Respect personal space and boundaries.
  • Ask, clarify or explain politely and patiently, and do not assume ill intent.
  • Use common sense: If your behavior seems to make others feel uncomfortable or unsafe, stop and assess what everyone else is saying.

Terms and conditions for attendance

By registering for the convention you agree to the following terms and conditions.

  • Keeping order and safety: Attendees are required to adhere to the rules of conduct, and to comply with requests from Furway medicurity personnel. Attendees are also required to subject themselves to ticket and/or identity verification whenever asked by convention personnel.
  • Keeping the magic: Attendees are expected to act in a manner befitting of and according to the code of conduct outlined under the community standard.
  • Keeping the memories: Photography and filming will happen at Furway, both by Furway crew and other participants. By attending Furway you acknowledge that you yourself are explicitly responsible for declining being photographed or filmed. By attending the convention you also concede to either photographers or the convention itself publicizing photos or video material depicting yourself. You can at any time revoke this permission by contacting the convention, should you not wish for any photos or video material of yourself to be published (e.g. should you not wish to appear in the aftermovie). All attendees that themselves photograph or film others must ask explicit permission before publishing potentially identifiable material.
  • Keeping you alive and well: Attendees agree that they are themselves responsible for their own health and well-being, and to communicate any medical or security issues to convention personnel. Attendees also agree that Furway cannot be held responsible for any personal injury that might occur during the arrangement. (Though we'll certainly do our best to forestall and help!) Allergies, intolerances and serious health issues should be reported to Furway beforehand so as to ensure successful medical precautions by convention medicurity personnel.
  • Keeping things tidy and clean: Attendees agree to ensure the facilities and venue remain clean and orderly at all times, which includes things such as cleaning and vacuuming one's room before departure, cleaning up trash, smoking only in designated outside smoking areas and dispose of cigarette butts in either ashtrays or designated containers.
  • Keeping things (mostly) safe for work: Attendees at or above the age of 18 agree to read and understand, and to comply with, the the convention's AD policy while attending the convention.
  • Keeping you safe: Whilst drinking is permitted, the convention does not sell alcohol-containing beverages. Illegal substances are not permitted, and serious offences or incidents will be reported to Norwegian law enforcement. If attendees observe someone that is unwell or unable to care for themselves, attendees are expected to contact Medicurity immediately.
  • Keeping everyone else safe: Attendees are required to read and comply with Furway's restrictions on which items are allowed on convention grounds. Moreover, attendees agree to comply with any temporary seizure of items as mandated by the convention Medicurity lead or the convention board.

Rules of conduct

The following section describes misconduct or incidents not allowed or accepted at the convention, and potentially subject to formal sanctions from the organization.

The types of misconduct listed below are neither prescriptive nor exhaustive. Respectively, no particular incident or behaviour will inevitably result in a certain formal sanction or any formal sanction at all, and the Furway board may impose sanctions on incidents or behaviour not explicitly covered by this section.

Furway expects attendees to respect each other to create a safe environment. The following are a non-exhaustive list of misconducts which can result in formal sanctions:

  • Physical violence.
  • Possession, use, sale or distribution of any illegal substances.
  • Incitement, advocacy or threats of physical violence.
  • Violation of Norwegian national law.
  • Incitement to violation of Furway rules or policies, or Norwegian national law.
  • Deliberately hurtful or discomforting behaviour or speech (bullying).
  • Advocacy of discriminatory behaviour or speech, or incitement to hostility (hate speech).
  • Insensitive or inconsiderate hurtful or discomforting behaviour (harassment).
  • Excessive intoxication.
  • Sharing private or sensitive information about others without consent.
  • Deliberate disruption of convention operations or damage to venue or convention equipment.
  • Refusal to comply with requests from Furway personnel.
  • Disrespecting personal boundaries and signs (e.g. "no touch" indicators on badges, lanyards, pins, etc.).
  • Careless, inconsiderate or disrespectful physical contact, including of fursuiters (tail, ears, head, "boops," hugs, etc.).
  • Persistent unwanted contact or engagement (stalking).

Descriptions of potential formal sanctions are described in its own section.

Rule violation and formal sanctions

In cases involving breach of the terms or rules, or other dire misconduct, convention personnel will always strive to prioritize verbal information and informal requests in order to clear up misunderstandings.

However, depending on incident severity and context, some cases might warrant formal sanctions and consequences by the organization itself.

The Furway board is the final arbiter in all matters potentially constituting grounds for formal sanctions, and adjudicates all such matters.

Possible actions include the following, depending on severity.

  • Eviction from convention areas.
  • Cancellation of convention ticket.
  • Removal from volunteer/staff role.
  • Access restriction to certain convention activities or areas.
  • Denial of registration ("ban") from one or more future conventions.
  • Police involvement and possible criminal charges.

Acknowledgement
